Dear Mom and Dad,
-In terms of food...hawaiian bread sounds great(for french toast), as does milk...real milk. I've been eating whole-grained quaker oatmeal here which would be great to have.
-Congrats to Uncle David!
-They just banned the missionaries from wearing backpacks in the Philippines, so I had to buy a side-bag this week with my debit card.
I just got back from Pola! We played some basketball and volleyball with some of the members. I went to visit some of them, but they weren't at home! I did see one of my recent converts, Jethroy, who's 18. He told me that he's planning on putting his papers in to serve a mission in November! I was thrilled! As we were coming out of Pola, we went to see the Mirhan family, the family we baptized almost a year and a half ago. When I saw Sister Mirhan her face lit up! It was just the best to see her again. Unfortunately, here kids were at school and her husband was at work. I'm going to go back the day before I go up to the mission home and they'll be there. I had to ask President if I could visit Pola, and he looked at me, and I thought he would say no, but he said, "Elder, you can do whatever you want. Just keep that quiet." I think that's good enough for me to see this family one more time! Probably the biggest reason I want to go back is to help Brother. He is so so so close to getting baptized! They're just starting to plant rice here, so people are really busy, and church attendance everywhere is way down.
One of our investigators, Ramon, made great progress this week. We had tracted into his father, and he wasn't interested, but his 19 year old son was willing to listen. He's the student body president of his college in Pinamalayan, and has great leadership capabilities. He's been reading the Book of Mormon, and has prayed to know, and says he's received an answer it's true. He has a baptismal goal date for July 20th, and came to church yesterday. President Mones (the District President) was at church yesterday, and was shocked when he saw us bring Ramon to church, because apparently he had been one of Ramon's high school teachers. Pretty awesome! I think President Mones was pretty excited to see him.
This past week, President shared some great verses in the Doctrine and Covenants with us:
5 Therefore, verily I say unto you, lift up your voices unto this people; speak the thoughts that I shall put into your hearts, and you shall not be confounded before men;
6 For it shall be given you in the very hour, yea, in the very moment, what ye shall say.
7 But a commandment I give unto you, that ye shall declare whatsoever thing ye declare in my name, in solemnity of heart, in the spirit of meekness, in all things.
8 And I give unto you this promise, that inasmuch as ye do this the Holy Ghost shall be shed forth in bearing record unto all things whatsoever ye shall say.
What a wonderful promise! As we do these things, the Holy Ghost will always bear record of what we say. I have felt that these past weeks. I've been trying to truly consecrate myself these past few days, and I can tell you the promise is true. As we are eye single to him, The Holy Ghost will always help those we teach feel the power of our message
Love,
Elder Yost
