Hello!!
-I could use a few more white shirts
-I sent Elder Tenny a letter a couple of weeks ago
-I would love a BYU LAX shirt
It was a pretty good week here. It's pretty hot!! My farmers tan is at an all-time best right now, and my watch tan is even better! We were pretty busy this week and I have some cool experiences I'd like to share. Just a few random funny things, a few weeks ago there was apparently a mini conference in San Pablo or something and some mission presidents and their assistants were there. One of the Assistants in Quezon City is an Elder Haws, yup BYU Basketball!! One of the Elders in my district was a ward missionary in one of Elder Haws' areas and only has the best things to say about him!
Thanks for the BYU Lax article! Oh man...it brought back a lot of memories. Please tell Corey Gunderson congrats. I smiled to myself when I read about his determined resolve!
Well we have a father of a part member family that we've been working with finally come to church!!! He's so awesome, and his only problem is that he works in another town and is there on Sundays. He was able to change his schedule so he's now at home with his family on Sunday. I was so happy to see this brother go to church. He also has a 17 year old daughter whose not yet a member, and she's moving back home in a few days. Hopefully we'll be able to teach here, and hopefully complete this family of 7 people!!
This week we got the idea to hold a branch fireside for Home and Visiting Teaching to try and pump in some energy. Part of the challenge is people have never been Home Taught or been out themselves to Home Teach, so they have no idea what to do! We held a fireside. We read the parable of the olive tree in Jacob 5. I really like how it says the laborers were "few", but the Lord labored with them. We taught about how we were all called, before this world was, for this work. It's no mistake that we're here at this time. The Lord knew we were up to the task, and he has placed us here to help gather his children!" I think the fireside went well. We watched a clip of President Hinckley in which he said every convert needs 1) A friend 2) An assignment 3) To be nourished by the good word of God. Home and Visiting Teaching accomplishes all that. We also said the HT and VT is not a once a month deal. I'm grateful for all the HT and VTers that have been great examples to me. When Dad and I had an assignment, we magnify that to our utmost ability.
I feel like I've come to better understand this week that we truly have been called to do things here on Earth before the world was. The Lord has called ALL of us to his work. He's placed us all where we need to be. I was talking to one of the Assistants this week and I asked what kind of an experience it was to help President with transfers. He said, "I've been amazed to see what a revelatory experience it is to get 40 missionaries in the right areas with the right companions. I've come to appreciate the grandeur of God that his hand placed every soul, worlds without end where they need to be." God knows us and loves us. He has a work for us to do. There are people to help, there are arms that hang heavy, let us put ourselves in the service of others and lift where we stand!
Love,
Elder Yost
